As a Marketing Executive you plan and deliver marketing campaigns that raise awareness of your organisation's products or services among target audiences. Your day-to-day work involves conducting market research, producing content for digital and traditional channels, coordinating with creative teams, and monitoring campaign performance using analytics tools. You track key performance indicators such as website traffic, conversion rates, and return on ad spend, and use this data to refine your approach. You typically collaborate with sales teams, external agencies, graphic designers, and senior marketing managers, and may report on results to management on a regular basis.
Listen: a day as a Marketing Executive
You arrive at the office in Dublin city centre at half eight, grab a coffee, and open your laptop. Your first task is checking Google Analytics and Meta Business Suite to see how yesterday's sponsored social media posts performed. One of the ads promoting your company's new software product has a lower click-through rate than expected, so you flag it in a shared Slack channel for your team to discuss later. At nine o'clock you join a brief stand-up meeting with the wider marketing team and the sales manager. You run through last week's lead numbers, agree on priorities for the day, and note that the sales team need updated brochure copy by Friday. You take that task on and block out time in your calendar.

Career in Digital Marketing in Ireland - Milana Gurenko's experience
ThriveUp Career
Leaving Certificate subjects such as Business, Economics, English, and a modern language provide a strong foundation for marketing. The most common route into this role is a Level 8 Honours Bachelor degree in Marketing or Business with Marketing, offered at institutions such as DCU, TU Dublin, University of Limerick, UCC, and University of Galway; entry is through the CAO and points requirements vary by institution and year. A Level 7 Ordinary Bachelor or Level 6 Higher Certificate in Business or Marketing from a technological university is also a recognised pathway. Alternatively, a QQI Level 5 or 6 PLC course in Marketing, Advertising or Digital Marketing at a College of Further Education can provide entry to higher education programmes or direct employment. Professional development through the Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII), including its Postgraduate Diploma or Chartered Marketer programme at Level 9, is valued for career progression.
Most marketing executives begin in junior or graduate marketing roles, often gained through internships or graduate programmes offered by Irish companies and multinationals. With two to four years of experience, progression to Marketing Manager or Senior Marketing Executive is typical, with responsibility for larger budgets and team leadership. Further advancement can lead to roles such as Head of Marketing or Marketing Director, particularly in larger organisations. Membership and chartered status with the Marketing Institute of Ireland strengthens career prospects at each stage.
AI tools are already reshaping how marketing executives work, automating tasks such as audience segmentation, A/B testing, and the generation of first-draft content. Platforms using machine learning can optimise digital ad spend in real time, reducing some of the manual analytical work traditionally done by junior marketers. However, strategic thinking, creative judgement, brand management, and building client relationships remain distinctly human skills that AI cannot fully replicate. Marketing executives who are comfortable using AI-powered tools alongside their own expertise are likely to be the most competitive candidates in the Irish jobs market.
