Rugby Player
Johnny Sexton
Ireland's record points scorer, famously meticulous.
Education
Johnny Sexton grew up in Dublin and attended St Mary's College CBS in Rathmines, a school with a strong rugby tradition. From a young age he was drawn to sport, and his school environment helped him develop the discipline and competitive drive that would define his career. Like many Irish teenagers, he balanced his studies with his passion for the game, learning early that dedication off the field matters just as much as talent on it.
Career
Sexton came through the Leinster academy system and worked his way up to become the province's first-choice out-half, winning multiple Pro14 titles and Heineken Champions Cups along the way. He made a bold move to French club Racing 92, testing himself in a different league and culture before returning to Leinster. He captained Ireland from 2019 to 2023, becoming the country's record points scorer and earning a reputation as one of the most meticulous and determined players in world rugby.
Key Lesson
Johnny Sexton's career shows that obsessive preparation and self-belief can take you further than raw talent alone. He faced fierce competition for his position throughout his career and never used that as an excuse to coast — he just worked harder. Whatever you're pursuing, showing up every day with focus and honesty about where you need to improve is what separates good from great.
