Finance Minister
Finance minister who chaired the Eurogroup.
Paschal Donohoe grew up in Dublin and attended St. Declan's CBS in Cabra, where he developed strong interests in economics and public affairs. He went on to study Economics and Politics at Trinity College Dublin, one of Ireland's most prestigious universities. His academic background gave him a deep understanding of how money, policy, and society connect — skills that would shape his entire career.
After college, Donohoe worked in business before entering politics, winning a seat as a TD for Dublin Central in 2011. He rose steadily through government, holding several senior ministerial roles before becoming Minister for Finance in 2017. In 2020, he was elected President of the Eurogroup, chairing meetings of all the finance ministers across the eurozone — putting an Irish politician at the heart of European economic decision-making. In late 2025, he stepped away from Irish politics entirely to take up a senior leadership role at the World Bank, bringing his expertise to a global stage.
Paschal Donohoe's story shows that a genuine interest in how the world works — whether it's economics, politics, or international affairs — can take you far beyond what you imagine at school. You don't need a flashy start; steady effort, curiosity, and a willingness to take on responsibility matter more. Ireland punches above its weight on the world stage, and so can you.
