Radio Presenter
Liveline presenter, the country's unofficial complaints desk.
Joe Duffy grew up in Ballyfermot in Dublin, an area that shaped his sharp sense of community and his ear for ordinary people's stories. He studied at University College Dublin, where he became heavily involved in student activism and media. His time in UCD helped him develop the communication skills and social awareness that would later define his broadcasting career.
Joe began his career working with youth and community organisations before moving into radio with RTÉ. He worked as a reporter and presenter across several programmes before eventually taking over Liveline, RTÉ Radio 1's live phone-in show. Liveline became one of the most listened-to programmes in the country, with Joe turning it into a genuine public forum where everyday Irish people could voice their frustrations, grief, and joy.
Joe's story shows that where you come from is not a limit — it can be your greatest strength. His ability to listen genuinely to people from all walks of life is what made him irreplaceable. If you care about your community and aren't afraid to give ordinary voices a platform, there is real power in that.
