Tramore Fun Fair & Amusement Park: Family Days Out in Waterford

Tramore's seaside amusement park is a beloved County Waterford tradition, drawing families back season after season for rides, games and coastal fun.

Tramore Amusement Park, sitting right along the beachfront in the seaside town of Tramore, County Waterford, is one of the most enduring family attractions on the southeast coast of Ireland. Open throughout the summer season and on weekends and school holidays for much of the year, it has been a staple of Irish family outings for generations. The park is compact enough that younger children never feel overwhelmed, but packed with enough rides and attractions to keep older kids thoroughly entertained for a full afternoon.

The rides range from gentle carousel-style attractions perfect for toddlers right up to faster spinning rides that teenagers will queue for repeatedly. There are bumper cars, a ghost train, and a handful of classic fairground games where you can win oversized stuffed animals — the sort of chaotic, cheerful atmosphere that is genuinely hard to replicate indoors. Admission to the park itself is generally free, with individual ride tokens purchased on-site, so you can control your spend depending on the age and enthusiasm of your group. Budget roughly €10–€20 per child for a comfortable afternoon of rides and a go or two on the games.

Tramore is only 12 kilometres south of Waterford city, making it an easy half-day or full-day trip. The town itself adds to the appeal — the three-kilometre Blue Flag beach stretches right alongside the amusement area, so families often split the day between the rides and a long walk or paddle along the strand. The promenade is lined with ice cream shops, chippers and cafés, so you are never far from a 99 cone or a portion of chips to keep energy levels up.

Getting there by car is straightforward, with several public car parks along the promenade; the ones closest to the amusement area fill up quickly on sunny summer weekends, so arriving before midday is wise. Bus Éireann operates regular services from Waterford city to Tramore throughout the day, making it accessible without a car — the journey takes around 30 minutes and drops you close to the seafront. If you are travelling with a buggy or younger children, the bus is surprisingly manageable as the stop is right on the flat promenade.

Local tip most visitors miss: the back roads into Tramore from the Waterford city side can become badly congested on bank holiday weekends. Locals will tell you to park at the upper end of town near the Racecourse Road and walk down — it takes about ten minutes on foot but saves a frustrating crawl through the one-way system near the seafront. It also means you pass one of the better ice cream shops on the way down, which is never a bad thing.
