What will you learn?

A Bachelor's degree in Digital Marketing equips you with the skills to plan, execute and measure marketing campaigns across online channels including search engines, social media, email and display advertising. You study core areas such as search engine optimisation (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, content strategy, web analytics, consumer behaviour and brand management. Many programmes integrate industry-recognised certifications from Google and Meta as part of the curriculum. A typical week might include lectures on campaign strategy, hands-on analytics labs using tools like Google Analytics 4 and Meta Ads Manager, and group projects simulating real client briefs. A mandatory placement year in a marketing agency or in-house team gives you vital industry experience before you graduate.

Required Education

Entry is through the CAO and typically requires a minimum of six subjects in the Leaving Certificate, including English at Ordinary level or above. Higher Level Maths is not always required but is advantageous, and subjects such as Business, Economics or Accounting are useful preparation. CAO points for programmes at DCU, TU Dublin and SETU tend to be moderate to high, reflecting strong demand for these courses. If you do not meet direct entry requirements, a relevant QQI Level 5 or Level 6 PLC award in Marketing, Business or Media can provide a progression route onto the degree. Mature applicants aged 23 or over may apply directly through the mature-student CAO process, and HEAR and DARE schemes support applicants from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds or with disabilities.

Career Prospects

The outlook for digital marketing graduates in Ireland is strong, driven by continued growth in e-commerce, online advertising spend and the expansion of multinational tech companies based here. Starting salaries for junior digital marketing roles typically range from approximately €28,000 to €36,000 gross per year, rising significantly with experience and specialisation. Mid-level roles such as Digital Marketing Manager or PPC Specialist can attract salaries in the €45,000 to €60,000 range. Demand is consistently reported as higher than supply for candidates with strong data and analytics skills alongside creative ability.

Impact of AI on this program

AI is already transforming digital marketing through tools that automate ad bidding, generate content at scale, personalise user experiences and predict consumer behaviour using large datasets. As a student and future practitioner, you will need to understand how to use AI-powered platforms such as Google Performance Max and Meta Advantage+ campaigns effectively. Rather than replacing digital marketers, AI is shifting the role towards strategy, interpretation of AI-generated outputs and ethical oversight of automated systems. Courses are increasingly incorporating AI literacy modules to ensure graduates can critically evaluate and direct these tools rather than simply follow their recommendations.
