What will you learn?

A Supply Chain Management degree teaches you how goods, services and information move from raw materials through to the end customer. You will study procurement, logistics, inventory control, demand forecasting and operations management, with a strong emphasis on data analytics and sustainability. Many programmes include a dedicated placement year, giving you hands-on experience in industries such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, FMCG and retail. Practical modules often involve supply chain simulation software and case studies drawn from Ireland's significant pharma and med-tech sectors. A typical week combines lectures, team-based problem-solving workshops and data analysis exercises, preparing you to manage complex, globalised supply networks including the cross-border and post-Brexit trade environment.

Required Education

Entry is typically through the CAO, requiring a Leaving Certificate with a minimum of six subjects including English and Mathematics at Ordinary level, though Higher-level Maths is strongly advantageous and expected in competitive rounds. Points requirements are moderate, reflecting solid but not extreme competition for places. Business, Economics, Applied Maths and Accounting are useful Leaving Certificate subjects that build relevant background knowledge. QQI Level 5 or 6 FET awards in Business, Logistics or Supply Chain can provide a recognised progression route into Level 7 programmes, with opportunities to transfer to Level 8 after first or second year. Mature applicants aged 23 or over may apply through the mature-student CAO pathway, and HEAR and DARE schemes support applicants from socioeconomic or disability backgrounds.

Career Prospects

Graduate prospects are strong, driven by Ireland's large multinational manufacturing base in pharma, med-tech and technology sectors, all of which depend on efficient, compliant supply chains. Salaries for entry-level supply chain roles typically range from €30,000 to €40,000 gross per annum, rising considerably with experience and professional certification. Demand for professionals with data analytics skills embedded in supply chain roles is growing rapidly. Ireland's ongoing exposure to global trade volatility and post-Brexit complexity continues to create sustained employer demand for well-qualified graduates.

Impact of AI on this program

AI and machine learning are increasingly used in demand forecasting, inventory optimisation and supplier risk assessment, meaning graduates must be comfortable working with data-driven tools and platforms. Your programme will likely introduce you to AI-assisted planning software and digital twin simulations that model supply chain disruptions. Roles focused on manual data entry and basic tracking are becoming automated, but strategic, analytical and relationship-based roles are growing in importance. Graduates who combine supply chain knowledge with digital literacy will be well positioned in an AI-augmented workplace.
