Education

Kellie Harrington grew up in Portland Row on Dublin's north inner city, an area she has always spoken about with fierce pride. She attended local schools in Dublin and was involved in sport from a young age, finding her way into boxing through her community. Formal academic qualifications were not the path she followed — instead, she pursued her passion through sport and later trained as a healthcare worker, a role she still holds today at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin.

Career

Kellie began boxing at the Portland Boxing Club and worked her way up through the amateur ranks over many years of dedicated training. She won the World Championship in 2018, announcing herself on the global stage, but the real breakthrough came at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where she won gold in the lightweight category — a moment that stopped the country in its tracks. She backed it up with another gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, becoming a double Olympic champion. Through it all, she continued working shifts at St Vincent's Hospital, never losing sight of who she is.

Key Lesson

Kellie's story shows that where you come from does not limit where you can go — but staying grounded in your community and your values is a strength, not a weakness. You don't have to choose between ambition and humility; the best version of yourself can hold both at once.
