Help build a currach in Connemara

"What if you helped make a boat the way they did 200 years ago?"

Why this is so fun

There is something quietly brilliant about bending laths of ash by hand and stretching canvas over a frame the same way people did on the Connemara coast two centuries ago. You will get tar on your fingers, argue gently with a craftsperson about tension, and then watch an actual boat take shape because of your own effort. It teaches patience in a way no classroom ever quite manages, and the moment you see your currach float on a grey Atlantic inlet, you will feel unreasonably proud of yourself.

Someone who did this

Tadhg (25), Nenagh — warehouse supervisor at a builders' providers, does a bit of hurling when the knees let him

I'd no real plan beyond seeing if I could do it without making a complete fool of myself.
