Sea-swim right through an Irish winter

"What if you kept swimming in the sea when everyone else stopped?"

Why this is so fun

There is nothing quite like wading into a grey Atlantic in January while everyone else is sensibly indoors — and then realising you are absolutely fine. Better than fine, actually. The cold strips away every anxious thought you had that morning and replaces it with pure, buzzing aliveness. You learn that your body is tougher than you thought, that discomfort passes faster than you expect, and that the craic in an Irish sea-swimming group on a bitter Wednesday morning is genuinely unlike anything else. The tea and biscuits after taste like a reward you properly earned.

Someone who did this

Dara (25), Cavan — works in a credit union, drives forty minutes to the nearest decent chipper

I'm from Cavan, so the sea is already a bit of a production for me — it's not like I can just nip down to the beach.
