Accommodation and Housekeeping Supervision (QQI Level 5)

Hospitality & Tourism

Duration

What will you learn?

This QQI Level 5 course gives you the practical and supervisory skills needed to manage accommodation and housekeeping operations in hotels, guesthouses, and similar settings. You will learn how to maintain and inspect room standards, manage linen and laundry systems, draw up staff rosters, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. A typical week combines classroom sessions on supervisory techniques and hospitality standards with hands-on practical work covering cleaning procedures, stock control, and room presentation. Many programmes include a work placement in a local hotel or accommodation provider, giving you real industry experience. You will also develop communication and team leadership skills essential for a supervisory role.

Required Education

Entry to this QQI Level 5 programme is generally open to applicants who have completed the Junior Certificate or equivalent, with no specific higher-level subject requirements at Leaving Certificate level. A Leaving Certificate or equivalent is often preferred but mature applicants aged 23 or over may be considered on the basis of relevant work experience in hospitality or a related area. Some Colleges of Further Education may require an interview or a minimum level of English language proficiency, particularly for non-native speakers. HEAR and DARE access schemes may apply at certain ETB colleges for applicants with social or disability-related barriers. Previous experience in a hotel, guesthouse, or cleaning environment is an advantage but is not normally required for entry.

Core Subjects

Career Prospects

Demand for trained housekeeping supervisors remains steady in Ireland given the continued growth of domestic and international tourism. Hotels and accommodation providers frequently report difficulty filling supervisory roles, meaning qualified graduates are often hired relatively quickly after completing their course. Salaries for housekeeping supervisors in Ireland typically range from approximately €28,000 to €36,000 gross per year, with experienced accommodation managers earning more. Career progression within larger hotel groups can be relatively fast for motivated individuals who demonstrate strong organisational and leadership skills.

Impact of AI on this program

AI is beginning to influence accommodation operations through automated scheduling tools, predictive maintenance systems, and digital room inspection apps that streamline supervisory tasks. Some larger hotel groups are introducing AI-assisted housekeeping management software to optimise staff rosters and track room turnaround times. However, the hands-on, people-centred nature of housekeeping supervision means that human oversight, interpersonal skills, and physical inspection remain central to the role. AI is more likely to support your work than replace it in this field.
